VPH - Volume Profile Heatmap (Visible Prices)
Dec 29, 2025

The VPH - Volume Profile Heatmap (Visible Prices) indicator provides a dynamic, localized visualization of volume density by focusing exclusively on the most recent market activity at specific price levels. This tool identifies fresh support and resistance zones by disregarding historical volume once price has traversed back through a level, ensuring that only current market participation is reflected in the heatmap.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret current market auctions. Unlike standard volume profiles, this indicator is fully reactive to the visible chart range.
- Identifying High-Volume Nodes: Users should look for the brightest cyan boxes on the heatmap. These represent price levels with the highest concentration of recent trading activity and are likely to act as points of price reaction or consolidation.
- Spotting Low-Volume Zones: Darker or empty areas indicate zones where the price moved quickly with little participation. These often act as "vacuums," where price may travel rapidly again in the future.
- Dynamic Analysis: As users scroll or zoom, the indicator automatically recalculates based on the visible bars. This allows for manual backtesting by simply moving the chart to a historical period to see how the volume distribution looked at that specific time.
- Scale Alignment: Ensure the indicator is pinned to the price scale (usually the right scale). If the profile does not move with the chart, right-click the indicator and select "Pin to Scale."
Details
The indicator utilizes a specific exclusion logic to maintain relevance. When a price level is revisited, the previous volume data is discarded in favor of the most recent transaction data. This prioritizes "fresh" liquidity over stale historical nodes.
The tool leverages a multi-stage color gradient to represent volume intensity as a percentage of the total volume range within the visible window. The vertical resolution is determined by dividing the visible price high and low into a user-defined number of rows (Profile Bars). By calculating volume only for the most recent time a price touched a level, the heatmap effectively maps where supply and demand currently reside in the market structure.
Settings
Profile
- Number of Profile Bars [10-400]: Controls the vertical granularity of the heatmap. Higher values provide more detailed price rows.
- Minimum Volume to Plot (Percent of Total) [1-95]: Sets a threshold to filter out low-activity noise. Only levels exceeding this percentage of the maximum volume will be displayed.
Heatmap
- Color #1 - #11: A series of color inputs that define the gradient mapped to volume intensity. Color #1 represents the lowest volume threshold (<10%), while Color #11 represents the highest volume intensity (95-100%).
FAQ
How do I adjust the indicator to see more detail? You can increase the "Number of Profile Bars" in the settings to a higher value (up to 400) to increase the granularity of the volume rows.
Why does the heatmap change when I scroll the chart? The indicator is designed to calculate volume based on the "Visible Range." It dynamically updates to show the volume profile of the specific price action currently displayed on your screen.
