The Extreme Zone Volume Profile indicator applies statistical zone classification to volume distribution to help traders identify key support, resistance, and breakout areas based on price-range percentiles.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market structure through volume-weighted price levels. The indicator segments the price range into specific zones that suggest different market behaviors:

  • Reversal Trading: Zone B (Extreme Zones) represents the outer tails of the price range (default 2.5% at each end). When price enters these red or green areas, it suggests an overextended state where the potential for rejection or mean reversion is high.
  • Support and Resistance: Zone A (Significant Zones) indicates secondary bands (default 14%) where substantial volume interest often creates intermediate support or resistance.
  • Mean Reversion: The Center Zone (Gray) represents the "fair value" area. Traders can monitor the Point of Control (POC), volume-weighted mean, and median price lines as primary targets for price to return to during normal conditions.
  • Breakout Confirmation: If price expands with high volume beyond the Zone B boundaries, it may signal a genuine breakout rather than a rejection.

The volume profile is projected to the right of the current bar to maintain chart clarity while providing a real-time view of the distribution relative to historical price action.

Details

The script distributes volume across a user-defined number of bins over a specific lookback period. Unlike standard profiles that rank volume nodes, this tool uses price-range percentiles:

  1. Binning: It divides the total price range of the lookback period into 20–200 bins and calculates the volume-weighted price for each.
  2. Zone Classification: Zone B captures the extreme tails (approx. 2 standard deviations), Zone A captures the next significant bands (approx. 1 standard deviation), and the Center Zone contains the bulk of the trading range.
  3. Reference Levels:
    • POC: The price level with the maximum volume accumulation.
    • Volume-Weighted Mean: The average price adjusted for volume (Total Volume × Price / Total Volume).
    • Median Price: The geometric center of the lookback price range.

Settings

  • Lookback Period: Defines the historical depth (10–1000 bars) used for the volume calculation.
  • Number of Bins: Sets the resolution (20–200) of the volume distribution. Higher values offer more granularity.
  • Zone B Percentage: Adjusts the threshold for extreme zones (default 2.5%).
  • Zone A Percentage: Adjusts the threshold for significant support/resistance zones (default 14.0%).
  • Visual Toggles: Options to show or hide the POC, Median, Mean, and Zone boundary lines.
  • Style Settings: Includes color pickers for each zone and line, as well as bar width and thickness multipliers to customize the profile's appearance.

FAQ

How do I interpret the different colors in the volume profile? The colors represent the statistical significance of the price level: Red/Green (Zone B) are extremes, Orange/Teal (Zone A) are significant interest areas, and Gray is the center fair value area.

Can I use this for scalping or swing trading? Yes. For scalping, decrease the Lookback Period; for swing trading, increase the Lookback Period to capture a broader market structure.
