All in one Moving Averages SIMPLIFIED
Aug 19, 2018

The All in one Moving Averages SIMPLIFIED tool provides a comprehensive suite of trend-following overlays by consolidating multiple Simple Moving Averages (SMA), Exponential Moving Averages (EMA), and a logic-based Hull Moving Average (HMA) into a single workspace for streamlined technical analysis.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used, examples should be provided in this section. This section also focuses on how main settings affect the indicator interpretation and output.
Traders can use this indicator to identify trend direction, potential support and resistance zones, and momentum shifts across various timeframes. The tool provides three distinct groups of averages:
- Long-Term Trend Bias: The SMA 200 serves as the primary gauge for the long-term trend, while the SMA 20 and SMA 50 offer mid-term trend perspectives.
- Momentum Clusters: The EMA 8, 13, 21, and 55 provide a sensitive ribbon-like view of price action, helping to identify short-term momentum shifts and entry points.
- HMA Trend Filter: A unique hybrid HMA (calculating the maximum value between HMA 55 and HMA 80) acts as a smoothed trend indicator to filter out market noise.
For example, a bullish scenario might be identified when price stays above the thick SMA 200 while the shorter-term EMAs remain stacked in ascending order. Conversely, a cross below the EMA 55 or the HMA Trend Filter may signal a trend exhaustion or reversal.
Details
The script executes by calculating three different types of moving averages simultaneously. The logic for the "trendInd" (HMA Trend Filter) is unique as it compares the Hull Moving Average with a period of 55 against a period of 80, plotting the higher of the two values. This creates a more reactive yet robust boundary for trend identification compared to a standard single HMA.
The tool includes pre-configured alert conditions for significant market events, such as price crossing the 200-period SMA or the EMA 8 crossing the EMA 21, which are common signals for trend confirmation and mean reversion strategies.
Settings
- MA20/50/200: Controls the visibility and styling of the Simple Moving Averages. The 200-period SMA is weighted more heavily visually to denote its importance.
- EMA8/13/21/55: Controls the visibility and styling of the Exponential Moving Averages. These are color-coded to represent short-term (green) and medium-term (red) momentum.
- HMA55_80: Controls the visibility of the consolidated Hull Moving Average trend line, which uses a logic-based comparison between 55 and 80 periods.
FAQ
How do I use the HMA Trend Filter? The HMA Trend Filter combines HMA 55 and 80 to show the dominant trend level. When price is trading above this line, the market is generally considered to be in an uptrend, whereas trading below it suggests a downtrend.
What alerts are included in this script? The script includes built-in alerts for price crossing the SMA 200 and for "golden/death" crosses between the EMA 8 and EMA 21.
