RSI + Stochastics
Sep 24, 2019

The RSI + Stochastics indicator is a momentum-based tool designed to identify potential exit points or reversal zones by combining overbought and oversold conditions from two classic oscillators. It aims to provide traders with "Take Profit" signals when both the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and the Stochastic oscillator align in extreme territories.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify areas where a trend might be overextended, suggesting a potential time to lock in profits or look for counter-trend opportunities.
- Take Profit (Below Bar): A red label appears when the RSI is below the oversold threshold and the Stochastic %K crosses above the %D line while below the oversold level. This suggests a potential bottom or exhaustion of selling pressure.
- Take Profit (Above Bar): A green label appears when the RSI is above the overbought threshold and the Stochastic %K crosses under the %D line while above the overbought level. This suggests a potential top or exhaustion of buying pressure.
Because markets can remain overbought or oversold for extended periods during strong trends, these signals are best used as confluence with other technical analysis methods rather than as standalone entry signals.
Details
The script executes logic based on two primary oscillators:
- Relative Strength Index (RSI): Measures the speed and change of price movements to determine overbought or oversold conditions.
- Stochastic Oscillator: Compares a specific closing price of a security to a range of its prices over a certain period. The script specifically looks for crosses between the smoothed %K and %D lines within the extreme zones defined by the user.
A signal is only triggered when both indicators agree that the market has reached an extreme and the Stochastic lines have performed a bearish or bullish crossover.

FAQ
How do I interpret the signals?
The labels are designed to highlight potential "Take Profit" areas. A red label suggests a potential bullish reversal or exit for shorts, while a green label suggests a potential bearish reversal or exit for longs.
Can I use this in trending markets?
In very strong trends, oscillators can stay in extreme zones for a long time. It is recommended to use these signals with additional trend-following tools to avoid exiting positions too early.
