Crypto EMA Bands - Support and Resistance
May 24, 2021

The Crypto EMA Bands - Support and Resistance indicator provides a multi-layered moving average ribbon designed to identify trends, support/resistance zones, and potential market breakouts within the cryptocurrency markets.
Usage
The indicator utilizes multiple Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) and a Simple Moving Average (SMA) to create visual bands on the chart. Traders can use these bands to determine the current market bias:
- Short-Term Trend: The area between the 13 and 21 EMAs changes color based on their relationship. A green fill typically indicates a bullish short-term momentum, while a red fill indicates a bearish one.
- Medium-Term Trend: The relationship between the 55 and 89 EMAs provides a broader view of the trend. The cloud fill between the short-term EMA (13) and the medium-term EMA (89) helps visualize trend strength.
- Base Line Analysis: The 200 SMA acts as the primary baseline. When price and short-term EMAs are above this line, the market is generally considered in a bull phase. When they are below, it suggests a bear phase.
- Dynamic Signals: The 200 SMA changes color (from white/foreground to yellow) to signal potential pressure or shifts in long-term momentum.
Details
The script calculates six different EMA lengths and one SMA length. It specifically focuses on the interactions between these averages to define support and resistance "zones" rather than single lines.
- Ribbon Structure: By filling the space between specific averages, the tool creates a visual ribbon that expands and contracts based on market volatility and trend alignment.
- Signal Logic: The indicator includes built-in alert conditions for crossovers between the 13/21 EMAs and for when the 13 EMA crosses the 200 SMA, signaling significant trend shifts.
Settings
- EMA Length 1-6: Adjusts the periods for the various Exponential Moving Averages used in the ribbon.
- Show ema150?: A toggle to display or hide the 150-period EMA on the chart.
- Base Line (sma200): Sets the period for the primary Simple Moving Average baseline.
FAQ
How do I interpret the color changes on the 200 SMA?
The 200 SMA is colored based on its relationship with the 200 EMA. When the 200 EMA is above the 200 SMA, it follows the chart's foreground color; otherwise, it turns yellow to indicate potential downward pressure or a bearish shift.
Can this be used for Elliott Wave analysis?
Yes, the various bands can help identify wave structures by providing clear visual boundaries for corrective pullbacks (support) and impulse moves.
