FXN - Week and Day Separator
Oct 24, 2019

The FXN - Week and Day Separator indicator marks the beginning of weekly cycles and daily sessions with customizable vertical lines to help traders identify time-based market patterns. It provides a cleaner alternative to default platform session breaks, preventing visual conflicts between weekly and daily transitions.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to organize price charts based on time cycles. Traders can use the vertical separators to quickly identify the opening of a new trading week or the start of a specific day.
- Weekly Cycle Analysis: By default, the indicator highlights the start of the week. This is useful for traders who track weekly highs/lows or specific weekly opening ranges.
- Daily Session Identification: Users can enable daily separators to see where each session begins. This helps in identifying intra-day cycles without the clutter often caused by native platform settings.
- Visual Customization: The tool allows for high levels of aesthetic control, including line styles (solid, dashed, dotted), widths, and colors. Users can also opt for background highlighting instead of vertical lines for a less intrusive look.
- Important Chart Setting: To ensure vertical lines display correctly without distorting the price action when switching symbols, users should right-click the price axis and select "Scale Price Chart Only" instead of "Auto (Fits Data To Screen)".
Details
The script is constructed to identify the specific bar that corresponds to the start of a week or day based on user inputs. It utilizes time-based logic to determine the exact moment a session rolls over, accounting for different start days (e.g., Sunday vs. Monday).
The indicator includes logic to handle different timeframes. It automatically manages visibility on higher resolutions (like 4-hour or daily charts) where granular separators might otherwise clutter the view. Furthermore, it offers a "Short Day Label" feature for lower timeframes like the 1-hour chart to maintain legibility. The integration of background separators serves as a secondary visualization method for those who prefer shaded areas over distinct lines.
