Moving Averages (FIB)
Jan 17, 2018

The Moving Averages (FIB) indicator plots four distinct moving averages based on Fibonacci sequences (8, 13, 21, and 55) within a single script to streamline chart analysis and save indicator slots.
Usage
The Moving Averages (FIB) tool is used to identify trend direction, momentum, and potential reversal points by visualizing the relationship between four different time horizons. Traders can use this script to observe "fanning" effects, where the separation of the averages indicates a strengthening trend, or "confluence" points where multiple averages converge to signal support or resistance.
A common example of usage is monitoring the crossover between the fastest (8) and slowest (55) averages to identify shifts in mid-term momentum. The visual weight of the lines allows for quick identification of the trend hierarchy at a glance.
Details
The script calculates four moving averages using the 8, 13, 21, and 55 periods. These specific lengths are derived from the Fibonacci sequence, which many traders believe represent natural cycles in financial markets. The indicator provides a toggle to switch between Simple Moving Averages (SMA) and Exponential Moving Averages (EMA). EMAs place more weight on recent price data, making them more responsive to sudden price fluctuations, while SMAs provide a smoother, broader view of price action.
The calculation logic is based on the closing price of each bar. The script also includes built-in alert conditions for crossovers between the 8-period and 55-period averages, facilitating automated monitoring of trend shifts.
Settings
- Exponential MA: A checkbox that toggles the calculation method for all four averages. When enabled, the script uses Exponential Moving Averages (EMA); when disabled, it defaults to Simple Moving Averages (SMA).
