Supertrend Channels

Supertrend Channels reshape the single Supertrend line into a full price channel. Built on the original's trend detection and extended with trailing maximums and minimums, the channels rise while an uptrend is in force and decline through downtrends, giving the trend a width rather than just a direction, with extremities and a middle line to trade against.

How to Trade the Supertrend Channels?

  • Rising channel: the underlying Supertrend has detected an uptrend and the whole structure ratchets upward with it.
  • Falling channel: a downtrend is in force and the channel steps lower.
  • Channel extremities: usable as support and resistance, much as Donchian extremes are read.
  • Middle line: the channel average keeps a useful distance from raw price fluctuations, filtering noise for cleaner trend reads.

Because the channel rebuilds from each trend flip rather than sliding over a fixed window, its levels reflect the current trend's own extremes, a subtle but meaningful difference from lookback-based channels.

Supertrend Channels Settings

  • Length: the ATR length used by the underlying Supertrend.
  • Mult: the ATR multiplier; higher values widen the structure and slow trend flips, lower values tighten it.
