Twiggs Money Flow

Twiggs Money Flow gauges whether volume is backing buyers or sellers by measuring where each close lands inside its true range, signing the bar's volume accordingly, and smoothing both the signed flow and total volume with Wilder-style averaging before taking their ratio. The result is a definitive clean take on Twiggs Money Flow: a line bounded between -1 and +1 that oscillates around zero, colored by side, with dashed symmetric levels at plus and minus 0.05 for the sustained-pressure read.

How to Trade the Twiggs Money Flow?

  • TMF above zero: volume-weighted closes are landing high inside their true ranges — net accumulation. Below zero, net distribution.
  • Threshold entries: a push above the positive level filters the whipsaw around zero in ranges and marks sustained accumulation; the mirror crossing below the negative level marks sustained distribution.
  • Gaps count: the prior close is folded into each bar's range, so a weak close after a downside gap books nearly all of the bar's volume as selling pressure.

Twiggs Money Flow Settings

  • Length (default 21): window of the Wilder-style smoothing applied to both signed and total volume — about a month of daily bars. Longer steadies the line at the cost of lag; shorter ones answer faster but chop more around zero.
  • Signal Threshold (default 0.05): small symmetric level around zero; no single published value exists, and setting 0 reads the zero line alone.
  • Gradient Fill (default enabled): style toggle for the fill between the line and zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Twiggs Money Flow differ from Chaikin Money Flow?

Both sign volume by close location, but Chaikin Money Flow uses rolling sums that can lurch as a heavy old bar leaves the window, and measures the close inside the plain high-low span. The exponential smoothing here removes those drop-off jumps, and the true-range basis lets gaps register as pressure.

Why does the indicator refuse to load on some symbols?

It requires a genuine volume feed and raises an error when the data vendor reports none — a money-flow reading without volume would be meaningless.

What alerts are available?

Six: bullish and bearish zero crosses, plus entries and exits of both the positive and negative signal thresholds, so sustained readings can be tracked without watching the pane.
