Naked POC As Level

Naked POC As Level is a Support/Resistance & Levels concept.

What is a naked POC as a level?

A naked POC, also called an untested or virgin point of control, is the point of control of a completed session or profile that price has never revisited since that session ended. Used as a level, it is kept on the chart indefinitely until touched, on the reasoning that the market tends to eventually retest the fairest price of a prior auction. This page covers the level-trading application; the underlying auction logic has its own entry under naked POC.

The rationale comes from profile theory. The POC is the price where the most volume traded, or the most time was spent in a TPO profile, making it the session's consensus value. When price leaves a session without ever trading back through that consensus, profile traders treat the departure as unfinished business: a reference the market has a documented tendency, though not an obligation, to return to. Naked POCs from high-volume sessions, or from sessions that started notable moves, are usually weighted most.

As chart levels, naked POCs have attractive properties: they mark prices where heavy two-sided trade actually occurred, they are objective once the profile convention is fixed, and they are naturally self-cleaning, since a single touch retires them. Their weakness is timing: a naked POC can sit untested for weeks or months, so it says little about when a revisit will happen, only that the reference exists.

How to track naked POCs

The work is bookkeeping: building profiles consistently and retiring levels when touched.

  1. 1Choose a profile convention: session-by-session volume profile or TPO, with a fixed session definition (regular hours versus 24-hour changes the POCs).
  2. 2At each session close, record that session's POC as a horizontal line extended forward.
  3. 3Retire the line the first time any later price trades through it; some traders require a full touch, others a trade within a tick or two.
  4. 4Keep a rolling ledger of survivors: the naked POCs above and below current price form a natural map of untested references.
  5. 5Annotate each survivor with its origin (date, session volume, what the session did) so older or thin-session POCs can be down-weighted.

How traders use it

  • As magnet targets: traders holding positions in the direction of an old naked POC often use it as a take-profit reference, expecting responsive activity when the market finally revisits prior value.
  • As reaction levels: on first touch, a naked POC frequently produces at least a pause, so some traders fade into it or tighten stops as price approaches, then treat the level as spent once tested.
  • As trend context: a market leaving a trail of naked POCs behind it is moving directionally without repairing value, which some read as trend strength and others as growing retracement risk toward the nearest untested POC.
  • With freshness discipline: like any reference, naked POCs age. Many practitioners cap the lookback or de-emphasize levels from long-dead regimes, consistent with general level freshness thinking.
  • Honestly bounded: there is no reliable timetable for revisits and no assurance one occurs at all; the level is a reference for planning, not a prediction engine.

Naked POC vs adjacent profile references

Naked POC: The naked POC entry covers the auction-theory concept and its behavior; this page covers the practical discipline of using the surviving levels in a level map.

Point of Control: Every session has a POC; only the ones never revisited are naked. A current-session POC is a live, moving reference, while a naked POC is a fixed historical one.

Unfinished Auction: Unfinished auctions mark incomplete business at range extremes (such as poor highs and lows); a naked POC marks unrevisited business at the center of value. Both invite revisits, from opposite parts of the profile.

Naked POC As Level FAQ

How often do naked POCs get filled?

Community studies suggest most are eventually revisited, but the horizon is open-ended and the figures depend on market and convention. There is no dependable fill rate to trade against mechanically.

Does a naked POC still matter after months?

Opinion is divided. Some traders keep them indefinitely; many down-weight or drop levels older than a few months, especially after the market has clearly changed regime.

Volume POC or TPO POC?

Both conventions are used and usually sit close together. Pick one, keep the session definition fixed, and be aware the levels will not match someone using the other convention.

Is a touched naked POC still a level?

Once tested it loses its special status, though the price can remain relevant as an ordinary high-volume node from that session.
